Best Format Ever?

Today one Travis 'garandhero' Christie formatted, a regular task performed by people who spend way too much time behind computers. Travis however did not backup World of Warcraft the game that stole over 2 years of his life with some 2,500 game hours played over the period.

I AM FREE at last! As someone who suffers from a few very destructive addictions this is a huge victory as it is the first one I've beaten. There is hope? I hadn't formatted for almost a year and I still had a very much updated World of Warcraft install; until today I simply didn't back it up. Re-installing WoW itself is a painstaking process of furious patching which takes a long time to complete and a lot of patience - I WILL NEVER BE BOTHERED TO DO THAT AS I KNOW IT'S ADDICTIVE PROPERTIES WILL DESTROY MY LIFE.

I finally figured out how you beat WoW.. Finality is winning by quitting the game and salvaging your life.

Another one of those "it's been a long time since I posted" posts... Joy! Well I've stupidly been wasting my time playing World of Warcrack, did really well with Wrath of the Lich King though... Up there with everyone else, even got alliance first 3 drake Obsidian Sanctum in 10man so I am pretty pleased at least with my performance and my guilds, was MT prot paladin so I had a harder time than say.. the dips..

On the lighter side I am giving that up, really sick of wasting my time on it. I am moving back home to sweet Auckland NEW FKN ZEALAND! Yeah i'm pretty excited, my younger sister Angela is pregnant atm, she is to give birth midyear so that in itself is really exciting. I have also decided to further my education, I really don't want to end up old and look back on my life to see I've worked some dead end job and never been happy with it, that said my main motivation is that I want to contribute to our sometimes wonderful human race, I don't see too worthwhile things to do with ones life. I have been tossing up between doing a bachelors in Science, music, arts etc... On one hand I find that I am exceptionally fascinated physics, astrophysics in particular, I desire to learn all that we know about the universe and be part of finding out more, finding out the way things that we cannot explain work, find out the nature of the universe. On the other hand music just wows me, how a good song can just blow you away, how it makes you feel... I do hope that my experience is shared by everyone, it's really just amazing and I wouldn't mind contributing my music to this world for the rest of my life because I think it would be so rewarding to make music and be able to uplift people with it. Two really tough choices but I hope to ponder some more over the coming weeks - I look to go home about 5 weeks from now so I have the time.

It's funny how this all worked out, I was once so intent on making a career out of game development and although that is still a possibility I just hate the idea of having to map on demand... I mean it is an art form like any other, you cannot force art and you cannot force passion for what you're doing - I really think it would be so empty. I am sure that plenty of people who perhaps felt the same way as me get along just fine working within the industry, I just cant see myself making it through that. I was actually exploring my mapping directories the other night, I found about 40 or so various source projects I never got finished, I really did just force myself to do things just for the sake of continued map production and most of these projects fell flat because I lost interest or never possessed it in the first place. I will map in the future, of that I have no doubt, just will take the right motivation and there really hasn't been any good games released in the last.... 5 or so years lol. Commercialization has really killed off skill games, catering to the masses ultimately means that games get easier and more noob friendly. I would really love the chance to remake Day of Defeat 3.1b, best game ever made, developers need to stop trying to damn hard because they just ruin it, I know for a fact a lot of first generation competitive gamers like myself wouldn't mind playing the same game long term... I mean come on, a new game every 2-3 years with updated technology, mainly eyecandy for those who enjoy it -_- no need to add new crap... keep the content fresh, new maps every few months, keep it rolling. The aforementioned complaints is why I would really love to be in a position to conceptualize games and have the freedom to manage entire projects and make the best games ever. I just wouldn't be able to stand spending 10years working my way into such a position... boring and fruitless.

Until next time chums.

Huge in Japan Volume.I

Just finished this video last night after working on it this past week. After a couple of versions I wasn't happy with I have come up with something I consider complete.

NS2 Videocast #4

The guys over at Unknown Worlds have posted another video in regards to Natural-Selection 2 progress. Gotta say it's looking sweet.

In this videocast, Cory and I discuss the look of the new Siege Cannons in NS2. The biggest change is that they are now mobile and can be moved around the map by the Commander (Mobile Automated Siege Cannons = MASCs?).

You can find the original post and video here.

Enron CGo Season 3

We have now completed our short but sweet CyberGamer Open season, as a clan that formed just 2 months ago we managed to make it to the top8 to qualify for playoffs. Enron, ranked 8 was tasked with playing Vanilla 5 who are ranked first and also the competition favorites.

Last night we played what turned out to be the final game of our first season, we were defeated by v5 on mp_strike 17-7, the win was 13-5. Check screenshots below.

enron vs vanilla5 half time enron vs vanilla5 full time

We finished 8th with 11 regular season wins, 1 regular season loss and 1 loss to knock us out of the playoffs. Thanks to all the clans we played this season, we look forward to the next.

Dota Redux

I got back into DotA recently after not playing for well over a year, needless to say I'm fairly rusty right now lol. Takes time to pick things back up again when it comes to DotA, especially given the changes made to the map in the time I was away. My main reason for this post is I want to let everyone know that I am once again updating my banlist for Bored Aussies. The old one has been thrown out, mainly because it's been a long time since the bans were made and the same people might have actually got decent at the game and no longer ragequit lol.

Click HERE to download the latest banlist (sep.7th). Also I would like to re-promote my earlier video made in 2006 for those newer DotA players and for those who haven't seen it before of course.

CGo Finals

Enron's final match of this season is coming up this Sunday, we take on Ill Vex for a guaranteed spot in the playoffs. So far we are 8-0, we could go undefeated in regular season.

I've started updating my banlist again, an updated version will be available on the site every few days. Check the right side of the site under DotA and you will find the download. For people who wish to keep their banlist consistent with mine you can use the following comment for leavers (default)

leaver: banned for leaving "$gametitle" on $day/$month/$year at gametime: $gametime

GLHF enjoy the blist :)
